As of May 2026, bus lines 322, 40, and 44 will be permanently discontinued as a tram line will be built in Science Park, announced Ernst Hendrikje, the head of the Science Park Board of Green Energy. As the UvA makes efforts to build new housing for PhD students, Amsterdam’s municipality has been incentivised to curate the tram line to make commuting for students more manageable. This will be a multi-million-euro project that will span the next 12 months.
AUC Communications Manager Edwin Fons shared that this new project would help AUC students by connecting them to UvA and VU communities. This comes after years of complaining about being separated and enclosed in the AUC Bubble. “This will be a daunting project, but we can’t wait to see what AUC students think,” Fons comments.
The plan was uncovered after attempting to interview about general green projects during “The Future of Science Park” conference on 26 March. Wiebke Kathrin, a spokesperson for the municipality, officially announced this project: “This is a historic moment for Science Park,” as the easy commuting would make it much more accessible for the wider public, she states.
However, concerns have been raised as the famous touring agency “Amsterdam Tours” expressed interest in settling down here due to the new tram line. A spike in interest has been observed in science-based tourism, which “is something that heavily interests us,” shares Elly Willy, CEO of the company.
Generally against tourism, Kathrin also finds Willy’s involvement concerning: “He frequently goes golfing in Mar-a-Lago with Elon Musk. I would not believe a word that comes out of his mouth.” Willy has not commented on these claims, but pictures of the two close in cahoots have floated around.
“The West yearns for the processors, ” Willy says. This causes Hendrikje to roll his eyes, and they start beating each other up.
April Fools 🙂
