It’s your lucky day – The Herring is currently recruiting!

We are looking for team members for the upcoming academic year, and the positions that need filling are the following:

Staff writer
As a staff writer, you write articles on a regular basis, approximately one every fifth week. If you have some previous journalistic experience, other writing experience, and a genuine interest in journalism – apply!

Managing Director
The managing director is part of the editorial board*. He/She prepares team meetings and agendas, takes minutes during meetings, and manages the team’s writing schedule. This entails communicating with team members about deadlines, and pairing writers with editors for each story.

Communications Manager
The communications manager is part of the editorial board*. He/She is responsible for replying to emails and other messages, and for promoting published stories on social media. The communications manager is also the primary person who to sets up and attends meetings with external parties.

Copy Editor
The copy editor is part of the editorial board*. He/She looks over all stories for stylistic, spelling and grammar issues at the end of the editing process.

Editor in Chief
The editor in chief is part of the editorial board*. He/She looks over each story primarily in a global way, checking the general structure of the story in order to see if it makes sense and engages the reader. The editor in chief is also responsible for having an overview of the organisation in its entirety, for setting the tone at meetings and engaging the rest of the team in creating and sustaining a common vision for each semester and year.

*All members of the editorial board are also writers and editors. The extra workload that comes with their board position means they can deliver stories at a lower frequency than the staff writers.

Apply to any of these positions by sending your CV, motivation letter and a writing sample (if you have one) to auctheherring@gmail.com before June 16. In selecting our team members, we pay attention to your ambition and interest in journalism. Experience, such as having taken the journalism course at AUC, is a plus, but not a must.

In case you are looking for an internship opportunity, you should know that you can do an internship at The Herring after you have worked with the platform for one semester already.

Have an idea for an article relevant to AUC students, and the time and motivation to write it? Become a guest writer for The Herring!

Email us an outline of your idea or a full draft of your article, at auctheherring@gmail.com

Experience in journalism is not required – our team will guide you through the editing and publishing process.

Creative pieces and photography/film projects are also welcome.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us by email or on Facebook.
We’re looking forward to working with you!
